Ariad x VDAB: designing a simplified Internal Communications journey

Context and challenge

VDAB's weekly newsletter (main channel in the internal communication mix) was too time-consuming to produce, too complex to reach the right audience effectively and the design was outdated.

On top of that, surveys revealed a communication overload due to local initiatives diluting the essence of corporate messages.

Our approach

Starting from a simple philosophy (get the basics right, because less is more) we investigated, assessed and redesigned both the newsletter and the way it was produced.

Through co-creation, validation and testing, we aligned central and local communications, simplified workflows, introduced a future-proof design with smarter distribution, and ensured the new approach was embraced across the organisation.

Context

Belfius serves millions of customers across Belgium through its digital platforms. To maintain a high-quality user experience while scaling efficiently, the UX team needed a more streamlined way of working between designers and developers.

Our approach

Belfius partnered with Ariad who introduced a highly specialised hybrid UX/UI expert, who bridged the gap between design and development.
He led the creation of a scalable design system based on atomic design principles: establishing a reusable toolbox of UI components. This enabled stronger collaboration, reduced repetitive work, and aligned teams around a shared framework.

Ariad x De Lijn: towards a more inclusive and accessible app

De Lijn's app is powerful but complex for certain audiences, including users with cognitive or motor impairments, low digital skills, or limited language proficiency. The challenge was to simplify the experience without losing essential features.

Ariad partnered with De Lijn who introduced one of their go-to UX experts. She led a user‑centric design process: identified target groups, ran qualitative workshops, and translated insights into a tested, accessible prototype.
