Our client is a dynamic and entrepreneurial BEL 20 company with strong development plans. Our company, which used to be a state-owned enterprise acting in a non-liberalized market, has become a listed company focused on operational efficiency and product & service development. The Solutions team is at the core of our Sales & Marketing Department, within the business unit Mail & Retail. To further fuel their growth, the Solutions team has an immediate need for a hands-on Solution Design person.

Position overview

The main purpose of the position is to generate new revenues for our client by identifying the specific needs of our public clients and developing solutions in line with their organization’s objectives and expectations.

A Solution Design professional reports directly to the Director Solutions, covering the public customer segments. Even though a Solution Design professional doesn’t have direct people management responsibility or dedicated resources, they need to work with competent resources across bpost and identify external partners in order to develop profitable and implementable business cases.

The position is located at their HQ in Brussels, and the geographical perimeter is Belgium.

Key responsibilities

  • Detect new revenue opportunities by establishing strong relationships with (potential) customers and other relevant stakeholders at various levels in their organizations

  • Develop oneself as an expert in understanding our public customers’ specific needs and ways of working

  • Play an active role in internal and external networking

  • Define and develop concepts for solutions by:

  • Developing a design for the solution

  • Testing the financial and operational feasibility

  • Managing the business plan and validating the offer

  • Draft outlines and specific operational & technical content for both incoming and outgoing tenders

  • Guide and monitor the transformation of the concept into concrete projects and the implementation phase – this includes ensuring that the specifications of the concept are correctly reflected – and maintaining an overview on the end-to-end process

  • Manage the project’s budgets

  • Contribute to the overall sales & marketing vision


  • Minimum 5-10 years of professional experience, of which 3-4 in working with/for the public sector

  • Fluent in Dutch and French is a must

  • Innovative

1. Idea creation (with a healthy mix of business and technology considerations),

2. Relationship building (internal and external)

3. Conceptualization of ideas (i.e. defining specific features for new products and services that add real value for our customers, taking field reality into consideration),

4. Deal making (thinking in terms of partnerships, understanding of money flows, negotiation skills),

5. Implementation skills (ability to federate and organize resources to transform the different features of the concept into reality)
